Scholars for Genocide

"Scholars for Truth About Genocide" claims to be a group of "authorities".

It was established on the fly several days ago to vilify and delegitimise the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS), a bona fide professional organisation, after it recently adopted a resolution determining that Israel is perpetrating a genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The new group's only activity has been to produce a petition, signed by several hundred purported "authorities", claiming IAGS got it all wrong because Israel is the most moral entity since the formation of the Solar System etc.

In other words, "Scholars for Truth About Genocide" is a genocide-denial initiative, more appropriately named Scholars for Genocide, and which exists solely and purely to whitewash Israel's crime of genocide. It is hasbara in the guise of scholarly authority.

Well, not exactly.

At least one scholar, Nathan Kalman-Lamb of the University of New Brunswick, has already gone public demanding the removal of his name from the list of signatories, on the grounds that he did not sign it.

Although Kalman-Lamb is a recognized scholar, his field is the sociology of sport, not genocide. Presumably those who hastily compiled this list of "signatories" assumed they had a license to include anyone with a Jewish-sounding name, because Israel.

Among the internationally-recognised "authorities" who remain on the list are the following scholars, whose names will be instantly familiar to you on account of the dozens of books and articles each has written about genocide in its many dimensions.

My personal favorites are signatory numbers 8, 112, 123, 176, 197, 252, 508, and especially 282, who is without a doubt the most important genocide scholar ever, surpassing Raphael Lemkin by a country mile:
